Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar names the toughest opponent he has faced

Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has named Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne as the toughest player he's defended against in the Premier League.

The Belgian midfielder suffered an injury-hit campaign last time out as Pep Guardiola's side pipped Liverpool to the title by a single point.

But De Bruyne has made an remarkable start to the new season, registering eight assists and two goals in just six matches.

The 28-year-old featured in the shock loss at St James' Park against United in January, and City will seek revenge when they return to Tyneside on November 30.

Speaking to Football Daily, Schar admitted he is a "fan" of De Bruyne and says his positioning between the lines makes him the most difficult player to defend against.

The Swiss international said: "It could be [Kevin] De Bruyne,"

"To be honest, I'm a big fan of him. He's a fantastic player.

"How many assists he gets is crazy.

"His positioning in the game is really hard to defend [against]. He's always between the lines. You don't know exactly what to do.

"You go out, or you wait, it's really hard.

"That's the best thing of the game, playing against these players and learning from them."
