Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin's message over takeover developments

DeAndre Yedlin has reacted to widespread reports that Newcastle United are set to be taken over by a Middle East consortium.

With the Magpies yet to make any public comment from the corridors of power, there has been a veil of silence from the club entirely until now.

Speaking to ESPN, Yedlin said: “Obviously the more money you have, the better players you can buy, ultimately, in most circumstances, the better you’ll be.

"But to be a good team, you have to have players that have bought into what you’re doing.

“Just because you’re buying an expensive player, doesn’t mean he will be good for that team. In this day and age, you do need money to compete.

"We’ll see what happens from the takeover, I know just as much as everyone else.”

Yedlin and his top-flight colleagues should soon hear what the plans are from the Premier League to complete the season.

A meeting in London takes place at the Premier League today.

Yedlin said: “I’d love to see the season finish.

“Hopefully, everything comes out the best and the virus leaves and people stop losing their lives.”
