Matt Ritchie is set to face a "lengthy lay off" after an awkward fall in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
The Newcastle United winger will go under the knife but could miss a large chunk of the first half of the season.
Ritchie's injury is similar to Fabian Schar with the Switzerland international on the sidelines since July.
Bruce said: "He will probably have an operation today. It's a similar operation to Fab Schar.
"How unfortunate are we to have two?"
And while there was better news on Schar, Bruce was gutted about Ritchie's injury.
He said: "Fab is ahead of schedule and wants to play. We're looking at a lengthy lay off for Matt."
Bruce handed Ritchie a long-term deal earlier this year and added: "We know how valuable he is around the training ground.
"He has that leadership about him. With any good player he'll be a miss."
