Newcastle United could soon have a 'hell of a player' who is already 'scaring' staff

Allan Saint-Maximin's natural ability is 'scary' and Steve Bruce believes Newcastle United will have a 'hell of a player' if the Frenchman learns the other side of the game.

The 22-year-old has long established himself as a firm fans' favourite with his speed and dribbling ability since completing his summer move from Nice and has been among those to really benefit from a shift to 4-2-3-1 of late.

While not yet back to his absolute explosive best, following a six-week lay-off with a hamstring injury, Saint-Maximin has stepped up with a goal and two assists in his last two games.

Bruce believes Saint-Maximin has 'got to learn to pass it a little bit more' but the Newcastle head coach has certainly been impressed by the impact the forward has made in the last eight months.

"Well, look, I said when he walked through the door that he's going to excite people the way he plays, the way he is," he told the BBC.

"He's natural ability is scary. He can go past any full-back. He's blessed with that natural ability with balance but, obviously, he's still got to learn the other side a little bit too. If he does, and sorts the other bits out, then we've got a hell of a player on our hands."

Saint-Maximin fired Newcastle to a 1-0 win at Southampton on Saturday and will be desperate to build on that match-winning display as the Magpies prepare to welcome Sheffield United and Man City to St James' Park this month.
