Newcastle United confirm released players as Matty Longstaff talks continue

Newcastle United have released a host of squad players.

United have announced that Rob Elliot, Jack Colback and Jamie Sterry have officially left the club.

The Magpies have also handed Luke Charman, Víctor Fernández, Liam Gibson and Nathan Harker free transfers.

Steve Bruce said in a statement: “Many of the players leaving us have been with the club for a long time and, both personally and on behalf of the club, I'd like to thank them.

"I'm sure supporters will join me in appreciating their efforts over the years and we wish them the very best with the next steps in their careers."

United say they are still in talks with Matty Longstaff over a long-term deal but the youngster has signed a short-term extension.
