Newcastle United complete Kieran Trippier transfer in first major signal of new owner's intent

Newcastle United have completed the signing of England international Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.

The full-back has signed a two and a half year deal with Eddie Howe delighted to get his man.

The deal, believed to be in the region of £12m, means the 31-year-old becomes the first signing under the Magpies' new owners.

Capped 35 times for England, Trippier brings a wealth of experience to Eddie Howe's side, with the hope that he will be the first of more signings to come this transfer window.

Trippier began his career with Manchester City, but didn't make a first-team appearance for the Citizens, instead gaining experience with loans at Barnsley and then Burnley, who he joined in a permanent deal in 2012.

He went on to make 185 appearances for the Lancashire side before earning a £3.5m move to Tottenham in 2015. Success with Spurs saw him capped by England, famously scoring against Croatia in the 2018 World Cup semi-final.

A move to Spain's La Liga saw him develop under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, where he won the league title in 2021.
