Newcastle United close in on Joe Willock and truth behind Italian reports on Carles Perez

Newcastle United have again been heavily linked with AS Roma star Carles Perez in this morning's newspapers in Italy.

However, Chronicle Live has learned there has been no bid from Newcastle United despite suggestions of a €10million offer from the Magpies.

For now, Newcastle are focused firmly on completing the deal for Joe Willock for £25million from Arsenal with the midfielder going through the closing stages of his switch from Arsenal.

The former Barcelona forward has also been linked with Genoa and Torino for a possible loan deal, something which would make more sense for United but as yet there has been no approach.

Willock is now on Tyneside with Newcastle boss Steve Bruce set to meet the media via a Zoom link this morning to preview the opening Premier League game of the season against West Ham United at St James' Park.

The club have until 12pm today to get the deal completed in order for Willock to play some part in the clash against the Hammers.

Although, the chances of him starting the game have been debated already as he only has 48 minutes of pre-season action under his belt.
