Newcastle United circling Chelsea's Ethan Ampadu as international linked with exit

Newcastle United are lining up a move for Chelsea's versatile defender Ethan Ampadu, according to the latest reports.

There are growing claims the Magpies have enquired about the availability of the Wales international and look set to take the 20-year-old on a season long loan.

Ampadu is expected to leave Stamford Bridge before the end of the transfer window, after failing to make it into Chelsea's first team squad against Crystal Palace on the opening day.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel appears happy to sanction a move away for Ampadu, with the youngster keen on getting first-team football again this season.

The Welsh international featured for Rob Page's side at Euro 2020 after spending last season on loan with relegated side Sheffield United.

Steve Bruce's team are in need of defensive reinforcements after Florian Lejeune joined Deportivo Alves and missing out on Axel Tuanzebe - who opted to join Aston Villa following the arrival of Raphael Varane at Manchester United.

Ampadu burst onto the scene at Exeter City and joined the Blues from his boyhood club in 2017. He's since since made 12 senior appearances and spent some time on loan in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.

The youngster spent last season on loan with the Blades and described it as a 'learning curve.'
