Newcastle United chiefs offer a 'no comment' status but do not deny price has been agreed

Newcastle United's current regime have emerged from St James' Park's corridors of power to issue a "no comment" response to big claims that a deal with Amanda Staveley has now been agreed.

The suggestion from the Staveley side of the deal is that Ashley is prepared to accept a lower offer of around £300million, which could be paid in instalments.

Although, this is yet to be stood up by United or Ashley himself, who is currently based in Miami.

Documents from Companies House have at least solidified that discussions have intensified in the last five days.

Chronicle Live reported last week that the talks between Ashley and Staveley's consortium, which also includes businessmen David and Simon Reuben plus big financial backing from Saudia Arabia's Public Investment Fund had reached a delicate stage.

All sides have now been approached for comment this afternoon through the proper channels by the Chronicle but United reacted to the increased media frenzy with a simple "no comment" but interestingly no denial of the suggested state of play.
