Newcastle United changes on the cards and team sheet could look different vs Wolves

Steve Bruce could turn to Martin Dubravka and Federico Fernandez for Newcastle United's huge game against Wolves on Saturday night.

The Magpies are just three points clear of the relegation zone following a run of two wins in 14 games and 18th-placed Fulham have hit form at just the right time.

Fulham were 10 points from safety earlier this month but Scott Parker's side have cut that gap following a run of two wins and a draw in their last three games.

Although Bruce has taken positives from aspects of Newcastle's recent displays, such as the second-half performance at Chelsea and the first 55 minutes against Manchester United, the Magpies' head coach simply needs points on the board.

Newcastle's next four games are crucial - Wolves, West Brom, Aston Villa and Brighton lie in wait - and Bruce looks set to make some notable changes.

Dubravka could come in to make his first league start since July after having to bide his time following his recovery from a heel injury.

The Slovakia No 1 was the club's player of the year last season but Bruce has remained loyal to Karl Darlow, whose displays were crucial to Newcastle picking up points in a host of games earlier in the campaign.

Darlow's man of the match performances against Spurs and Liverpool caught the eye but, even in defeat, the goalkeeper made a number of remarkable stops against Southampton, Chelsea and Man City in the first half of the season.

Darlow has not had much protection from his defenders at times - keeping two clean sheets in his last 15 games - but Bruce said Newcastle would look 'have a look at the goalkeeper' after the shot-stopper committed a 'cardinal sin' and was beaten at his near post for Marcus Rashford's opener in the 3-1 defeat against Manchester United.

Dubravka is a brilliant shot-stopper - no goalkeeper made more saves in the Premier League last season, after all - but the 32-year-old is also very good with his feet and is another leader to bring in to the side who organises the defence and brings a calmness to the backline.

Newcastle have conceded eight goals in their last four games and Bruce could also recall Fernandez, who has been out for more than a month with a calf issue, if the centre-back is fit to start.

Fernandez returned to training last week and Bruce hoped the Argentine could feature against Wolves after the Manchester United game came soon for him.

At the other end of the field, Joelinton had to come off with a groin issue against the Red Devils so it remains to be seen if the Brazilian will be fit or whether Dwight Gayle or Andy Carroll come back into the side.
