Newcastle United owners are not playing down expectations both this season and beyond after a rousing display of ambition from Amanda Staveley.
Speaking at the Financial Times' Business of Football Summit in London yesterday, the subject of Champions League football was referenced for a second time this week by the Toon co-owner. Staveley had told Talksport's Jim White that the ultimate dream was to win a clean slate of trophies at St James' Park.

Newcastle occupy fifth place in the Premier League but have two matches in hand over Tottenham Hotspur. United have slipped from second to fifth since Boxing Day but can now focus solely on the race for the Champions League.
Staveley said yesterday: “I can’t speak for PIF but there is a lot of potential at Newcastle. "There might be the chance of a place in the Champions League."
Staveley also underlined the progress made in the last 12 months, she said: "We’ve built in the last year from 11th to hoping we have a chance of the Champions League."
