Newcastle United braced for low turnout against Wolves as thousands of tickets remain unsold

Newcastle United are braced for another below-par turnout ahead of the weekend's visit of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Tickets remain on public sale for the clash against the Europa League outfit on Sunday for the 2pm start which will also be broadcast on Sky Sports' Super Sunday.

However, a crowd in the region of 43,000 could be on the cards again for Steve Bruce's side as they look to climb out of the relegation zone.

The cheapest adult tickets for the game are priced at £35 and the club website indicated around 7,000 unsold spaces on Friday morning,

United attracted a gate of 51,198 against Manchester United in their last game but the stadium is yet to sell out this season.

A crowd of just 43,316 watched the goalless encounter with Brighton & Hove Albion in September.

Whether this weekend's game results in the lowest attendance since 2011 - when 42,684 watched the encounter with Fulham - remains to be seen.

Speaking about the subject of attendances in today's Chronicle, former Toon star Mick Martin told us: "I thought the crowds dropping would be inevitable.

"There's a percentage of fans still there wondering why Rafa Benitez didn't stay.

"Some are have a question mark over the appointment of Steve Bruce.

"So some are staying away on both counts.

"They wanted Rafa to stay and the way results have gone haven't really lifted some of them.

"Mike Ashley has to come into this as well.

"Steve's late appointment at the end of July didn't help anybody.

"The money Newcastle spent and the fact that Mike Ashley hasn't sold it, is maybe annoying a good few.

"They're not going to the games. It's about 6,000 staying away.

"Don't get me wrong the crowd figures are still quite good compared to other clubs.

"The Man United gate was pretty good but the Brighton and Watford games the atmosphere wasn't what I wanted it to be."
