Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce 'ready to make key change' ahead of Leeds United clash

Leeds United travel to Tyneside to face Newcastle United on Friday night, with both sides seeking their first win in a bid to kickstart their seasons.

According to today's Mirror (p51), Steve Bruce could be set to make a change in goal, following his side's poor start to the season. The paper claims that Woodman has been dropped for Karl Darlow for Friday's game. If selected, Darlow would be making his first appearance of the season following a battle with Covid-19.

Woodman has played every game for the Magpies so far this season, conceding 12 goals in the four fixtures. Against Manchester United on Saturday, the goalkeeper fumbled a shot from Mason Greenwood, allowing Cristiano Ronaldo a gift of a goal on his return to Manchester United. The Portuguese scored again after Newcastle equalised, shooting straight at Woodman, who contrived to let the ball squirm underneath him.

The 24-year-old came through the ranks at Newcastle but has not featured for the club in the Premier League until this season. He kept the most clean sheets in the Championship for Swansea last season and spent the last two seasons on loan at the Liberty stadium. Leeds fans will remember that he was the man in goal as Pablo Hernandez scored his famous winner at Swansea as The Whites closed in on promotion in 19/20.

Ahead of Friday night's clash, Newcastle sit a point behind Leeds and are in the relegation zone. A win for either side will put some breathing room between them and the bottom three at this early stage of the season.
