Steve Bruce says he considered walking away from Newcastle United last summer.
After achieving top-flight safety for two consecutive seasons Bruce admits he wondered if he could ever win over some of his critics.
A tough start to the 2021/22 campaign has since followed and Bruce's position came under scrutiny because of that difficult opening to the season.

His job again looked under threat this week after the arrival of new owners at St James' Park but the Toon boss has been given the nod to continue.
Bruce was asked if he thought about resigning at the start of a new era but said: "Why should I when I had a conversation with them on Monday?
"They made it clear to me - carry on the best you can.
"No problem, I will do, thanks very much."
And again on the possibility of quitting, Bruce said: "I considered my future last summer when we finished 12th after finishing 13th before.
"That's when I had a look at.
"But I decided to crack on."
The prospect had previously not been discussed but when asked to elaborate on the situation, Bruce said: "I thought after 12th and 13th and matching the previous manager, can I take it forward?
"Can I get better than this?
"How do you take that forward?
"Those were the questions I asked myself.
"But then I thought of my staff and thought of everybody around me, and said you know what it is, this is still a great job.
"I have walked away from a Premier League club before but I decided to carry on."
