Newcastle United boss gives Nottingham Forest and Leeds United final Dwight Gayle decision

Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle is "going nowhere" this month, Magpies boss Steve Bruce has confirmed.

The 29-year-old striker scored 26 goals for West Brom last season in the Championship, making him of keen interest to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United in their search for a striker during January.

Forest are desperate to add a striker to their ranks this month after  loan flop Rafa Mir  had his loan spell from Wolves terminated - he has since moved to Spanish outfit Huesca on an 18-month deal.

After missing out on Eddie Nketiah, the Reds retain an interest in Brighton's Glenn Murray and Aston Villa forward Jonathan Kodjia, who looks set to complete a move to Qatar.

But Gayle was also understood to be amongst their top targets this month with Lamouchi hoping, along with Grabban, the striker could help to form the most prolific os Championship strike partnerships.

The Reds were with an injury picked up in action against Wolves last week.

But as Bruce spoke about that injury to the media at St. James' Park, he ventured into commenting on Forest's transfer interest in his player - ruling out a move entirely.

When asked if a loan deal would be a possibility, Bruce replied : "I must have repeated it 25 times.

"The rumours keep circulating that he is going to Notts Forest on loan. He is going nowhere."
