Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe 'confident' of more arrivals after Kieran Trippier transfer

Eddie Howe says he remains "confident" that Newcastle United will add to the signing of Kieran Trippier in the remaining 24 days of the January window.

Howe stated that he was not looking for a specific position despite the injury to Callum Wilson with the £20million man set to be missing for the foreseeable future.

But when asked if he was confident of bringing a clutch of further arrivals, Howe said: "At this moment I am.

"We are in the hands of clubs and agents of players.

"It might look easy from the outside but from the inside, it's not.

"I am confident but there are no promises."

When asked if he was interested in Lille centre-back Sven Botman or any other individual players or positions, Howe added: "Genuinely we are looking at all positions.

"If there is a player there that can improve us.

"Whether it is short-term or long-term I have to have a vision of getting into the team."

Howe insisted that Newcastle were working around the clock to bring in new players.

Howe, speaking at his press conference to preview the FA Cup clash against Cambridge, said: "We are working to improve the squad.

"That's where we currently stand.

"It changes by the hour, the outlook but we're working very hard to improve the squad."
