Newcastle United boss discusses future of former Nottingham Forest transfer target Jack Colback

Former Nottingham Forest loanee Jack Colback needs to “move on” to kickstart his career, according to Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce.

Colback impressed in two separate loan spells at the City Ground and was a target for the Reds in the summer while Martin O’Neill was still in charge.

He remained at St James’ Park, but was left out of the Magpies’ 25-man Premier League squad and has not seen any competitive action so far this season.

The midfielder continues to train with the first-team, and while Bruce has praised his attitude, the manager has suggested Colback’s departure seems likely.

“It’s that awful situation where you have to pick a squad,” Bruce said.

“The day before (the 25-man pick), Jack was going to be in the squad.

"And, for somebody out there, he’ll be a very good player. I’m convinced of that.

"The same goes for Henri Saivet, as well.

"They don’t find themselves in the squad, so to train every day when there’s no game at the end of it is hard.

"I do believe in keeping them around the place.

"Jack being Jack, being a good pro, has trained every day hoping that he can reboot his career. He needs to move on.”
