Newcastle United boosted as Ayoze Perez returns from hip injury to train ahead of huge Liverpool clash

Ayoze Perez has trained with Newcastle United ahead of their crunch clash against Liverpool.

The Spanish forward came off in the first half against Brighton after taking a whack on his hip before playing through the pain barrier to net his side's opener at the Amex Stadium.

Perez has been assessed throughout the week but is in with a shout of continuing his fine goalscoring form in the encounter against the Reds.

Perez said last week: "It was a strange match, another goal but not the best result and some pain in my hip."

Benitez will hope he gets the green light from the medical team to play and said last week: "His understanding with Rondon is quite good.

"We missed him. We were changing because we had a different kind of player when you put another one on. He was in form, on fire, and it was a pity when we had a player doing so well, we had to take him out."

Benitez must also decide whether Jonjo Shelvey continues in the middle of the park after making his comeback against the Seagulls last weekend.
