Newcastle United avoid being dragged into relegation zone again thanks to Wolves' late winner

Newcastle United avoided being dragged into the relegation zone thanks to a stoppage-time winner for Wolves at Fulham.

After being handed a huge favour by Aston Villa over the Easter weekend, United should be thankful to Wanderers after they did the job at Craven Cottage on a tense night on the Thames.

There was controversy just before half-time when Willian Jose thought he'd put Wolves ahead but the goal was chalked off via VAR for the tightest of offside calls as Daniel Podence was deemed the guilty man.

But Wolves snatched it in the 91st minute after Adam Traore to ease the tension on Tyneside.

The Spain international was released in behind before cracking a powerful past Alphonse Areola.

The situation at the bottom now sees Newcastle sitting on 29 points with a three-point cushion over the Cottagers and significantly with two matches in hand.

Victory over Burnley for Steve Bruce's side would put them six points ahead of Fulham.
