Newcastle United 'at a disadvantage in race to sign Gabriel Barbosa'

Newcastle United are believed to be at a disadvantage in the race to sign Brazilian striker Gabriel Barbosa, according to reports.

Birmingham Live claims the Magpies are in the hunt to bring the Brazilian international to the Premier League but are at a disadvantage based on their perilous Premier League position.

The report states the striker is 'keen to prove himself in Europe again' after a disappointing stint at Inter Milan in his youth.

The striker scored just once in a two year stint at the Serie A outfit, but is reportedly set to be open to offers.

A loan move is believed to be the best option for both parties and Newcastle are attempting to bolster their attacking options.

Barbosa is believed to beware of their interest, however "would favour a move elsewhere" with the likes of Aston Villa, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur tracking the striker.

'Gabigol' has rebuilt his career after unsuccessful spells at Benfica and Inter, scoring just under 100 goals back in his homeland with Santos and now Flamengo'

His current side value the striker at around €26million and are hopeful of cashing in on the striker.
