Newcastle United ask for European Super League clubs to have points docked

Newcastle United are believed to be one of the clubs calling for the big six to be deducted points after the recent European Super League revelations.

The Magpies were very much against the idea of the ESL when plans emerged earlier this season.

A report in this morning's Daily Mail suggests that the Magpies and Everton led the calls for Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea to have points docked from their 2020/21 programme.

Although, United were met by opposition from counterparts during Premier League meetings who felt it would take a lengthy and long-winded process to carry out such penalties.

The report reads: "Both clubs are lobbying for points deductions on the grounds that fining a club owned by a billionaire would be an empty gesture, there is an acceptance among the other clubs that such a sanction is not practical as it would lead to a lengthy legal battle.

"The Premier League Board are considering their options and are under pressure to get the matter resolved before the clubs' end-of-season shareholders' meeting next month."

Newcastle go into tomorrow's clash with Fulham sitting in 15th place but can finish as high as 12th if they win and Wolverhampton Wanderers, Southampton and Crystal Palace slip up.
