Newcastle United are interested in Ibrahima Sissoko, here's what stage deal is at

Newcastle United sources have played down reports they have held talks with Ibrahima Sissoko.

The Strasbourg midfielder has been watched by United but is one of many engine room players on the club’s radar. Sissoko, who is a France under-21 international and is primarily a defensive midfielder, arrived at Strasbourg from Brest in 2018 and is keen on a move to the Premier League.

It is believed his agent has been pushing a case for him towards sides in the English top-flight and a deal of around £10million is being touted in France but talk of an offers for the player is premature according to sources at the Toon end.

United currently have Isaac Hayden, Matty Longstaff, Sean Longstaff, Ki and Jonjo Shelvey who can play in the central midfield role, but are looking at reinforcements.

What is clear is that United’s scouting unit have been busy around Europe checking out a host of targets.

And despite continued talk of takeovers, Mike Ashley has given the green light to find new players for Steve Bruce in January if he needs them .
