Newcastle United announce Press conference plan for Friday as Graeme Jones told to face media

Newcastle United have confirmed that interim head coach Graeme Jones will face the media on the eve of the club's clash at Brighton on Saturday.

Jones looks set to take charge of his third consecutive game since the departure of Steve Bruce last month.

Jones called a later training session than usual on Thursday with the players coming in at 2pm.

The club's new hierarchy have been locked in talks with managerial candidates including former AFC Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe.

Howe is keen on the job but United want to go through a rigid process to get the right manager in place.

It is expected that Jones would work with Howe if he comes in.

United offered Unai Emery the chance to become one of the highest-paid Toon bosses in club history this week but the ex-Arsenal chief turned it down citing his commitment to Villarreal.

Yet this has not deterred United director Amanda Staveley with the Ripon financier eager to find the right man for the job in the dugout.

Despite being on the end of some stinging criticism from pundits, with former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan continually putting the boot in on Talksport, the club's new owners have been buoyed by the support of Newcastle fans.

Indeed, despite being deep in a relegation battle after a whirlwind month, the vast majority of fans are still right behind the new owners.

And had any supporter been told Newcastle would have a new owner and a new manager before Christmas just a couple of months ago, they would have been delighted.
