Newcastle United announce Graeme Jones will face media on Friday as manager search continues

Newcastle United coach Graeme Jones will address the media at the Magpies' next Press conference after being placed in caretaker charge.

The former Luton Town boss and Belgium assistant manager will take the hotseat following the departure of Steve Bruce ahead of the clash with Crystal Palace.

Jones is also likely to be in the dugout at Selhurst Park with Newcastle still considering a host of managerial candidates.

Even if an appointment was made before the weekend game the expectation would be the next head coach would be taking a seat in the stand rather than throwing themselves straight in at the deep end.

The Press call will take place on Friday afternoon over a Zoom conference for journalists and be beamed from the club's training HQ in Benton.

When Jones was appointed as coach in January he offered a positive outlook on life at St James' Park.

He said to the club's TV channel then: "I am from a school of anything is possible.

"At Wigan, we won the FA Cup but got relegated.

"But if Wigan can win an FA Cup then Newcastle United can, that's my view.

"At Everton, we got the record points total which was 72, it was only enough for fifth that season.

"We got the Europa League and the year after we got to both domestic semi-finals and lost to Man City and Man United then lost our jobs at the end of that season.

"I have a lot of experience of the Premier League, 265 games straight, so I know the animal and what it takes.

"I feel like I'm ready for that."
