Newcastle United and Sean Longstaff's stance on Manchester United transfer rumour

Newcastle United are adamant they won't sell Sean Longstaff to Manchester United this summer and the player is said to be relaxed about his future.

Transfer rumours linking United with a move for the 21-year-old midfielder have again resurfaced, despite the fact United sources dismissed a move last week.

MEN Sport understand Longstaff isn't on the Reds' list of transfer targets for the summer, though they are likely to sign a central midfielder and are interested in West Ham's Declan Rice, among others.

And although reports suggest United are ready to make a "formal offer" with a view to making Longstaff their second summer signing after Swansea's Daniel James , a move doesn't appear to be on the cards.

Newcastle want to keep the player, who made his first team bow under Rafa Benitez in 2018/19 and showed such impressive form to put him on the brink of an England Under-21 call-up before a knee ligament injury hit.

Longstaff's representatives are believed to be keen on negotiating a new bumper contract with Newcastle as reward for his breakthrough campaign. His current deal expires in June 2022.

Longstaff made nine Premier League appearances for the Magpies last season, scoring once and laying on one assist. He'd previously spent time on loan with Kilmarnock and Blackpool.
