Newcastle United and Man City fans furious with Liverpool red card escape

Newcastle United’s clash with Liverpool was clouded in controversy this evening as Trent Alexander-Arnold escaped a sending-off for an obvious handball on the goal-line.

The Reds full-back adjusted the position of his arm to keep out Salomon Rondon’s close-range effort before Christian Atsu quickly made amends by converting the rebound.

Newcastle were rightly frustrated in the aftermath, though, as there was no punishment for Alexander-Arnold’s actions.

The teenager, who had set up Virgil van Dijk for the opener, then put it on a plate for Mo Salah who made it 2-1 for the title-chasing visitors at the break.

Home fans were furious with referee Andre Marriner and his assistants, with many labelling the Liverpool youngster a cheat.

Manchester City supporters watching on ahead of their game with Leicester on Monday were not best pleased either.

Sky Sports commentator and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher admitted his old side were lucky to get away with a red card and the fans echoed his views.
