Newcastle United alerted to Dwight McNeil's uncertain situation at Burnley this summer

Burnley winger Dwight McNeil is on Newcastle United's radar this summer.

The 20-year-old Clarets star - who is valued at £35million - could be allowed to leave Turf Moor this term.

McNeil has made 29 appearances this season and scored twice, and has been looked at by the Magpies as well as Man United and Chelsea.

Newcastle's scouting unit have been furloughed but the winger was looked at before the virus pandemic.

United have been alerted to his availability by sources close to the player's agency Unique Sports Management who also represent Toon players Jamaal Lascelles, Dwight Gayle, Paul Dummett and Karl Darlow.

Sean Dyche knows he could be helpless to prevent the youngster from leaving this summer.

He said: “Look, we know Dwight is a player who will certainly go beyond us – but in a positive way.

“We don’t remotely want to lose good players.

"But eventually some players will outgrow the club in the sense of a bigger club coming along and buying them because of their skill set.

“Dwight is clearly a top talent.

"He is playing and delivering every week."

Burnley chairman Mike Garlick is realistic about whether he can hold on to star players if a big bid comes in, not least amid the virus pandemic that could cost clubs £50million if the season does not get finished.

Garlick said: "The fact of the matter is, if we don’t finish the season and there isn’t a clear start date for next season, we, as a club, will run out of money by August. That is a fact.

“I can’t speak for other clubs, I don’t know their financial positions.

“All I can speak for us our club and our position.

“That’s why we’re very determined that when of course it is safe to do so, we really want to finish this season.”
