Newcastle United alerted to Celtic interest for Kieran Tierney as left-back faces critical few weeks

Newcastle United have been alerted to Celtic's interest in Arsenal full-back Kieran Tierney with the Magpies yet to revive their early summer interest in the Scotland star.

Tierney will be allowed to leave Arsenal this summer with Brendan Rodgers understandably keen to take him back to the Glasgow club. Chronicle Live understands that the Gunners have yet to receive any official offers for the £110,000 per week defender at this stage.

Interested clubs have been quoted a fee of around £35million for Tierney with a 15% sell on clause to go to Celtic. Aston Villa were thought to be keen on the player and at 26 some may argue it is too early for him to head back to Scotland despite the lure of Champions League football.

Tierney has slipped down the pecking order at Arsenal due to the progress of Oleksandr Zinchenko but still possesses a steep fee for a left-back who can't get a game with the Gunners. The Gunners kick off their pre-season schedule with a game against Nurnberg on Thursday before heading over to the United States for a glamour tour with games against Man United, Barcelona and the MLS All Stars.

Tierney is currently with Arsenal on pre-season and Mikel Arteta is set to assess the player's future in the coming weeks. Whether Celtic can afford the defender remains to be seen.
