Newcastle United aiming to spoil Mohamed Salah's shot at Premier League history

Mohamed Salah is easily one of the best players in world football at the moment and struggling Newcastle United could do with him enjoying a rare off day when they head to Anfield later this week.

The 29-year-old has enjoyed a blistering start to the campaign with an involvement in 23 goals so far in the Premier League campaign.

Fourteen of the 23 goals have been his own, while the Egyptian has also chipped in with nine assists so far.

However, if you delve further into the statistics, the Liverpool frontman is on the brink of creating Premier League history and could do it against the Magpies this Thursday, 16 December.

Cast your mind back to the 2015/16 season and Jamie Vardy wrote his name into Premier League history by becoming the first player to score or register an assist in 15 consecutive matches.

The Leicester frontman was in the form of his career and Salah could replicate that feat with a goal or an assist against Newcastle this week.

The Magpies dismal start to the season and appalling goal difference could take another battering at Anfield with a heavy defeat.

It may take a minor miracle to come away with maximum points from Anfield given their performances so far this season, but Newcastle were able to hold the Liverpool juggernaut to a draw in both fixtures last season.

Mo Salah has scored against Newcastle in all four on their latest trips to Anfield and was on the scoresheet for the Reds back in April.
