Newcastle United agree to sell Florian Lejeune to La Liga club

Newcastle United have accepted a cash bid for Florian Lejeune with the centre-back heading to La Liga.

The Frenchman is returning to Alaves, the club he spent last season on loan with, to complete a permanent deal.

Lejeune was absent during the 1-0 defeat at York City and Steve Bruce has accepted the former Eibar man will leave the Magpies.

Bruce told reporters after the game: "Florian is on his way to Spain.

"It looks as if something is going to happen there.

"It will put a few quid in the coffers.

"He is going back to Alaves where he was on loan and there is something imminent."

Lejeune had started pre-season training with the Magpies but was pulled out of the camp over the weekend.

Newcastle had paid £8.7million for Lejeune back in 2017 during the Rafa Benitez era.

Bruce offered youngster Kell Watts a big chance against the Minstermen and he was one of the better players on the day despite defeat against the non-league side.
