Newcastle United activate Paul Dummett's contract extension until 2022

Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett looks set to stay at St James' Park next season.

The 29-year-old's current arrangement included the option of a one-year extension which Chronicle Live understands has now been activated.

Dummett, therefore, remains under contract until summer 2022 after proving his fitness in the latter part of the season.

Having suffered Achilles and hamstring injuries in 2020, Dummett's season did not really get under way December but he has since made 15 appearances, netting an important goal against Leicester City in a 4-2 win.

Dummett made his debut for the Magpies in 2013 and after rising through the ranks ade his 200th appearance for the club recently against Sheffield United.

He told NUFC TV: "I’ve been at the club for a long time now, so hopefully I can extend my stay and keep on creeping up with those appearances and get many more.

"If you had told me as a young kid I’d be playing 200 games for Newcastle, I would have snapped your hand off."
