Newcastle U23s player ratings after derby-day victory over Sunderland

Newcastle Under-23s ran out 2-0 winners against their Sunderland counterparts in Eppleton.

The Wearsiders played with 10 men for most of the game but Newcastle still impressed throughout.

Goals from Luke Charman and Victor Fernandez earned Neil Redfearn's side the victory in the Premier League 2 second tier.

Here are Lee Ryder's Newcastle player ratings from the Premier League 2 clash.

Dan Langley 7

Had long periods of being a spectator but stayed alert when called upon. A welcome clean sheet

Lewis Cass 7

Handed the captain’s armband and put in a leader’s display with some good runs forward

Ludwig Francilette 8

Really starting to find his feet on England. Looked compose when bringing ball out of defence.

Oisin McEntee 8

A strong physical presence at the back. Dealt with his key moments well.

Olly Walters 7

Sustained a few naughty challenges but motored well throughout the game.

Thomas Allan 8

Looked really dangerous on the counter. Certainly has the tools to do a job above reserve team level.

Jamie Sterry 7

Has been moved into the centre of midfield to reboot his career. His experience was important but set-plays could be better.

Mo Sangare 7

Starting to get back to the form of two seasons ago.

Jack Young 8

Buzzed around like his life depended on it. Definitely one to watch. Singled out for praise by Neil Redfearn in post-match media scrum.

Victor Fernandez 9

The Spaniard tormented Sunderland. Won penalty and capped performance with a goal. Thankfully his late withdrawal was nothing more than cramp.

Luke Charman 7

Kept composure with penalty after long delay but could have had a hat full as Sunderland afforded him time and space.

Subs

Kyle Scott (for Fernandez 75)

Josh Scott (for Young 87)
