Newcastle U23s come back from three goals down in dramatic win over Leeds

Newcastle United Under-23s staged a breathtaking comeback in the sunshine at Whitley Park.

The Magpies - who started the game with senior men Henri Saivet and Paul Dummett in the starting line-up - fell 3-0 down in Premier League 2.

But a fantastic fight back in the second period secured three points for Chris Hogg’s men.

A Liam McCarron double and Joe Gelhardt’s penalty had put Leeds in full control with 31 minutes on the clock.

However, Yannick Toure’s close range header reduced arrears two minutes later and handed his side hope before the interval.

With 20 minutes left Newcastle won a penalty before Elliot Anderson, who celebrated his 18th birthday in when signing a contract until 2024, stepped up and pulled another goal back.

Nohan Kenneh’s own goal tied the match up to leave Newcastle with seven minutes to go.

And as the game looked to be petering out for a draw, Newcastle put together a good move which resulted in sub Stan Flaherty coming off the bench and slamming the ball into the bottom corner to win it in stoppage time for the Magpies.
