Milenkovic, 24, has been a huge hit in Serie A, arriving at Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade for just £4.25m back in 2017.

The Serb has made 132 starts for I Viola and his impressive performances have seen the likes of West Ham and Manchester United register an interest.

The 6ft5 centre-back is also capable of playing at right-back.

Eddie Howe wants to bring in two central defenders before the window slams shut with Newcastle currently having one of the worst defensive records in the division.

The Magpies are also understood to be keeping their midfield options open, with Donny Van de Beek and Amadou Haidara on their list of targets, according to reports.
