Newcastle transfer target Olivier Giroud set for Inter Milan after £3.4million deal agreed

Olivier Giroud is poised to sign for Inter Milan after the Serie A club were prepared to offer him until 2022.

At 33, Giroud was always unlikely to fit into Newcastle United's blueprint as a permanent fixture and after being offered a big payday in Italy, he overlooked a series of loan offers from the Premier League including the chance to head to Tyneside.

Aston Villa were also in the running for Giroud but Inter are set to unveil the former Arsenal man in the next few days.

Chelsea will also pick up £3.4million for Giroud's services with the Blues benefiting significantly for a player who will soon be out of contract and has found Premier League goals a struggle recently.

He will now link up with Antonio Conte at the San Siro.

When asked about transfers today Bruce said: "We have to have people who will improve us.

"I think everybody finds it difficult. There have been one or two sensational ones down the years, usually teams don't want to sell.

"It is a difficult market. What you end up doing is looking at players who have fallen out with somebody."
