Newcastle transfer revolution begins with four Arsenal players on Eddie Howe's January wishlist

The January transfer window has swung open and Arsenal look set to be at the heart of the action, with both incomings and outgoings expected.

But it is Newcastle United who will perhaps garner the most attention this month. Following their takeover in October, many expect the Magpies to spend big in a bid to stay up.

Atletico Madrid's former Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier looks set to become their first signing of the month but they are not stopping there, with recent reports suggesting that as many as four of Mikel Arteta's first-team squad are on Eddie Howe's wishlist, according to a report from the Telegraph.

The biggest of those names is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The striker has been stripped of Arsenal's captaincy and banished from first-team training following a disciplinary breach in December.

Arsenal are now happy to let the 32-year-old leave in the January transfer window and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, that now looks all the more likely.

Another striker is also on Howe's radar in the form of wantaway Hale End graduate Eddie Nketiah.

Nketiah has made just three Premier League appearances this season and rejected a new deal at the Emirates in December, with a desire for regular first-team football the primary reason.

Crystal Palace, Brighton and Bayer Leverkusen are all believed to be interested in the 22-year-old but it would be hard to see any club beating Newcastle's financial muscle.

Howe is also said to be eager to bolster his midfield options and, with that in mind, has eyed a move for Mohamed Elneny, although it has previously been reported that Galatasaray were leading the race for the Egyptian's signature.

Rob Holding is the final Gunner apparently targeted by the relegation-threatened side, with the centre-back now well down the pecking order at the Emirates.
