Newcastle transfer notes: Lazaro deal latest and a Yedlin contract revelation

Valentino Lazaro's camp have yet to hear anything from Newcastle United and now believe it is 'too late' for the Inter Milan winger to extend his stay at St James' Park.

The Austria international joined the Magpies on loan back in January but made just three starts during his spell at the club.

The main reason Lazaro moved to Newcastle was to get game time ahead of Euro 2020 but he was mainly used as an impact player from the bench.

The Euros may have been postponed by a year but that makes Lazaro's next move even more crucial after he also struggled for a run of starts at Inter.

There is strong interest in Lazaro from Germany - the 24-year-old previously made his name at Hertha Berlin - but ChronicleLive understands his situation remains 'open'.

However, saying that, Lazaro's representatives now believe it is 'too late' for a deal to be struck with the Magpies. (CK)

DeAndre Yedlin has triggered a contract negotiation based on the number of games he has played for Newcastle United.

The wing-back's current deal expires next summer and, having bought into life at Newcastle, on and off the field, he is keen to reclaim his place and earn a new contract.

Extending Yedlin's contract, even by a year, would cover Newcastle's back whatever happens.

The United States international is a well-liked member of the dressing room but if, say, a suitable loan offer came in, a temporary move away would allow Yedlin to get regular game time and Newcastle could then review the situation a year later rather than losing the player on a free.

ChronicleLive understands that Newcastle would consider letting Yedlin leave if there was a move that worked for all parties.

Meanwhile, Yoshinori Muto's camp admit it will be 'interesting' to see what discussions take place when the players return for pre-season.

Muto, naturally, wants to play and would love to do that at Newcastle but the forward has made just three appearances this year. (CK)
