Newcastle to welcome back Disney on Ice as new show is announced

Disney on Ice will be making a return to Newcastle this winter, it has been announced.

Children's favourites Mickey Mouse and friends will be back at the city 's Utilita Arena in new show Find Your Hero, offering a pre-Christmas treat for families who missed out on festive outings last year due to the pandemic.

Tickets will go on pre-sale this Friday and then on general sale a week later.

Previous Disney on Ice shows at the arena, such as 100 Years of Magic, have proved a huge hit and this time around the skating extravaganza - which will run from December 9 to 12 - will feature more than 50 Disney characters in a mix of modern tales and timeless classics.

Among them will be Moana, Tangled and Frozen as well as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy.

Moana, for instance, will embark upon an action-packed voyage with mighty demigod Maui in a quest to save her island while the show's action will be peppered with songs, including Let it Go and In Summer as royal sisters Anna and Elsa have a whirl with snowman Olaf.

The show will showcase "cutting-edge figure skating, eye-catching costumes and stunning set designs" said a spokesman.

Kenneth Feld, chairman and chief executive officer of show producer Feld Entertainment, said: “We’re excited that Disney On Ice will be returning to the UK following the shutdown and providing families with the opportunity to make memories and experience live family entertainment.

“We were the first live touring family entertainment company to come back at a reduced capacity in the US, with over a million people attending our live events since October 2020.

"We’ve been learning and leading the way to return to full capacity in a responsible manner for our fans, staff and the industry.”

Ailsa Oliver, general manager of Utilita Arena, said that the team are thrilled about the company's upcoming return.

“I know our family audiences have really missed their yearly trip to see Disney On Ice," she said.

"It’s a fantastic opportunity for families to come together, have an amazing experience at the arena and make fabulous memories filled with fun and laughter.

"It's great to see kids in their fancy dress costumes, singing along to the songs and totally engaged with the magic unfolding."

Tickets, from £18, for Disney On Ice presents Find Your Hero will go on pre-sale to priority customers on July 23 at 9am.

Tickets then will go on general sale from 9am on Friday, July 30: see here or the arena website here.
