Newcastle to 'kill off' Burnley in the final game of the season

Newcastle United head down to Turf Moor to finish the Premier League season off in what could be a must-win game for Burnley. The Magpies may be safe but their opposition for the final day of the season are at risk of relegation.

The Clarets are currently in the relegation zone with Leeds United one point and one place above them. Burnley have a game in hand, a clash with Aston Villa, which if they win means they would head into Sunday two points clear of the drop zone.

Of course, a defeat would heap pressure on Burnley and caretaker manager Mike Jackson - with Newcastle ready to take advantage. Eddie Howe takes his side down to Lancashire on the back of a superb two-nil over Arsenal on Monday night which keeps the hopes of a top 10 finish alive.

Howe will have his strongest team to pick from and will want to see his side finish the season with a win - especially given the more than 2,000 strong away end.

On the final episode of Match Preview from The Everything is Black and White Podcast, Andrew Musgrove and John Gibson discuss the game. The pair look at the significance for some in black and white plus why Howe will not allow standards to slip.

Speaking about the potential result, Gibbo said: “ Newcastle will win. For me, it’s not about Burnley.

“Yes, they’ll need a win to have any chance of staying up but it's not about them - it's about us. If we go about the job the right way and retain our enthusiasm one more time, then we can go out on a high.

“Man for man we’re a much better side than Burnley. We can kill off their enthusiasm if it’s not already killed off. Newcastle to win.”

The pair also discussed United’s victory over Arsenal, why Eddie Howe should be named manager of the year, and whether James Tarkowski would be a good signing for the club. You can listen to the episode by playing the widget above.
