Newcastle to host huge open air Disco Festival as restrictions end

Get your dancing shoes on and keep everything crossed the warm weather continues as Newcastle will play host to a huge disco festival, just days after Covid restrictions end across the UK.

Clubs in Newcastle will open at 12.01am on Monday so people can welcome in what is being dubbed as 'Freedom Day' as legislation eases after 17 months of lockdown rules.

And on Friday, July 23 there will be one place to be in the city centre as massive beer garden Central Park will be home to Newcastle Disco Festival.

The Times Square haunt, which was packed out with fans every time England played in Euro 2020 and also hosted a big Eurovision watch party in May, will welcome a whole host of DJs to provide the soundtrack for the seven hour long event, which was originally set to take place at nearby Boiler Shop.

Acts taking to the decks include Michael Gray, famous for his clubbing anthem The Weekend; Crazy P, Melvo Baptiste, Smokin Jo, Danny Kane and Fat Tony.

Many tickets for Newcastle Disco Festival have already been snapped up, but there are some first release tickets still available online from Skiddle , priced £16.73.

Once they're gone, final release tickets are £27.88, with a group ticket offer available with ones for £22.30.

Dance legend Todd Terry, the man responsible for 90s smash Somethin' Goin On, was due to appear but he's been forced to cancel.

Revealing sad news, organisers posted on Facebook: "Having been in constant contact with Todd’s management since government updates, unfortunately Todd can no longer play next weeks show. UK travel rules currently in place & gig commitments in New York has unfortunately made this impossible to work in the timeframe."

They have promised to bring Todd to Newcastle soon though, so watch this space!
