Newcastle United have been handed a home tie in the second round of the League Cup.
The Magpies will face Blackburn Rovers on either September 15 or September 16 at St James' Park.
Newcastle will then take on either Oldham Athletic or Morecambe in round three should they beat Rovers at home.
The third-round tie would take place a week later and the fourth round is before the end of September meaning United would know if they had made the quarter-finals of the competition before the end of this month.
United were knocked out of the competition at the same stage last season when they were beaten on penalties by Leicester City.
In 2019, United needed two bites of the cherry to knock Rovers out of the FA Cup at the third round stage after being held at St James' before edging a replay.
Newcastle scraped a late draw on Tyneside thanks to Matt Ritchie's penalty before winning 4-2 at Ewood Park.
Steve Bruce has already vowed to take the cups seriously again this term after reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals last season.
