Newcastle are keen to sign Manchester United target Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid, according to reports.
In a seismic £305million deal, the Magpies have new owners after a consortium backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) struck up an agreement with now-former chairman Mike Ashley.
It's a takeover which is set to see Newcastle emerge as major players in the transfer market moving forward.
However, in the first instance, their priority is to strengthen during the January window with a view to preserving their Premier League status for next season - and newly-appointed manager Eddie Howe had identified Trippier as his number one port of call in that regard.
A long-term target for key figures in the Old Trafford boardroom, the England right-back was effectively priced out of a transfer to United this summer when Atletico refused to budge on their £30million valuation.
That price tag could, ultimately, be reduced when it comes to a mid-season approach.
According to The Mirror, rock-bottom Newcastle have made Trippier a priority target for January and will make the first move amid that long-standing interest from United.
The 35-cap international - who played for Burnley and Tottenham before his successful spell in Spain - is thought to favour a switch back to the Premier League in order to be closer to his family.
Trippier remains under contract with the reigning La Liga champions until 2023.
Elsewhere, reports are suggesting that Tottenham are set to step up their pursuit to replace goalkeeper Hugo Lloris with Dean Henderson or Sam Johnstone.
Of course, both men progressed through the famed Old Trafford academy.
Henderson displaced long-serving David de Gea last season, but has been made to play second fiddle this term on the back of contracting Covid-19 during the summer.
De Gea has, meanwhile, been in inspired form since being handed back the gloves.

It's a decision that has led to reports linking Henderson with Newcastle. However, the England stopper seems to be on Tottenham's radar, too, as per this article from The Daily Mail.
The report claims the Londoners are eyeing-up Henderson or Johnstone to succeed Lloris.
Having signed for Tottenham nine years ago, the French World Cup-winning captain is rapidly approaching his 35th birthday and the Premier League club have yet to make a final decision on his future - with a current contract set to expire at the end of this campaign.
