Newcastle tipped to challenge for Gareth Bale signature amid Real Madrid summer exit

It's no secret Gareth Bale is wanting to leave Real Madrid this summer and with the transfer window opening next week speculation persists about where the Welshman could be playing next season.

Bale has been at Real Madrid since 2013 when he joined for a record breaking £85.1 million from Spurs. In his first few seasons he was everything Madrid fans hoped for, scoring, assisting and winning a number of trophies. In his first season he scored one of his most iconic goals and arguably one of the best goals in a final during the 2014 Copa del Rey Final.

The Spanish press has since turned against him and after returning to Spurs on loan for the 2020/21 season, Bale went back to Madrid with his agent Jonathan Barnett confirming he would leave Real Madrid after the 2021-22 season.

Now the summer transfer window is here Betfair have their odds ready to see where Bale will end up. Could he join Cardiff, the place where he grew up? They are current favourites at 3/10. Newcastle are among the favourites too, however, in the betting at 11/1.

Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “Gareth Bale’s time with Real Madrid is coming to an end and his odds on joining Cardiff have been slashed to 3/10 from 15/8 since Saturday’s Champions League final. Elsewhere, he is 6/1 to join any MLS club, 9/1 to return to Tottenham and 11/1 to become a part of the Newcastle revolution before the summer transfer window closes.”

Bale's next destination is up for debate but Barnett insists his client won't be motivated by money. “Finance will not come into this. He’s already extremely wealthy," he said. "Gareth is probably the richest footballer Britain has produced. In any case, no club on earth would be able to pay what he’s on at the moment. Gareth realises that. Money is not important to him.
