Newcastle Theatre Royal delays Robin Hood pantomime until April 2021

The Newcastle Theatre Royal has delayed this year's socially distanced pantomime following the announcement the city would enter into Tier 3.

On a post on its Facebook page, it said the theatre was unable to open due to current restrictions.

The Prime Minister announced new restrictions for Tier 3 mean that theatres will have to close to combat the spread of coronavirus.

It also said that without a clear timeframe for when the city would move to Tier 2, organisers said progressing the show in December would not be possible.

Ticket holders have been contacted and tickets will be automatically refunded over the coming weeks.

However, the dates for the April shows will be announced on December 11 and previous Robin Hood ticket holders will get priority.

In October, the theatre confirmed they would be holding a socially distanced pantomime.

The post read: "Over the last week, following the Tier 3 announcement, we have been carefully considering all our options with regards to our socially distanced pantomime, Robin Hood, and we have made the difficult decision to reschedule the show to April 2021.

"Current restrictions mean that we are unable to open and without a clear timeframe for the city moving to Tier 2, progressing with the show in December is not possible.

"We have contacted ticket holders via email and we will be automatically refunding all tickets over the coming weeks.

"The new April dates will be announced on Fri 11 Dec and go on-sale Mon 14 - Wed 16 Dec with priority booking available for previous Robin Hood bookers.

"We had really hoped to provide some Christmas sparkle this year but now look forward to an Easter treat.

"Thank you for your support."
