The Theatre Royal in Newcastle has cancelled all its performances in light of Government advice on coronavirus.
The venue has announced it will not be staging any shows until April 12, and will continue to monitor the situation to decide if the site should remain closed beyond that date.
A spokesperson said: "We would like to reassure our customers that we are closely monitoring the coronavirus (Covid-19) situation.
"The advice from Government is that theatres should close and accordingly Newcastle Theatre Royal is cancelling all performances until 12 April, 2020.
"We will continue to review the situation and advise in due course if we will be closed beyond that date.
"Customers who have tickets for performances up to and including 12 April will automatically receive an email or letter from us offering a refund or credit note.
"From 17 March our box office will be open from 9am to 6pm for telephone enquiries only.
"In line with Government guidance we will not be opening the public box office in our foyer. Our team are exceedingly busy at present and please bear with us as we work through the refund process at this challenging time."
The theatre is urging people to keep checking its website and social media channels for further updates over the coming weeks.
The spokesperson added: "We greatly appreciate the support of our audiences at this testing and anxious time.
"It is a fast-moving situation, we are monitoring it closely and will keep you posted.
"We are hopeful that things will get back to normal soon and we hope to see you return in the not too distant future."
