Newcastle suffer huge blow as Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin are ruled out until April

Newcastle United have been dealt a huge blow in their survival bid after Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin were ruled out until April.

Almiron had to come off at half-time of the Magpies' 1-1 draw against Wolves after suffering a knee injury while Saint-Maximin hobbled off in the 63rd-minute with a groin issue.

Almiron and Saint-Maximin have since undergone scans and Newcastle have now confirmed that they will not play again this month, which means the pair will miss crucial games against West Brom, Aston Villa and Brighton.

With star striker Callum Wilson three or four weeks away from returning to action, after suffering a hamstring injury last month, the black-and-whites are now without their three best players.

Indeed, Wilson, Saint-Maximin and Almiron have scored 16 of Newcastle's 27 league goals and also have nine assists to their name in the top-flight.

Following Saturday night's game, Steve Bruce admitted Newcastle 'were going to have to find a way' and Ryan Fraser and Dwight Gayle will be hoping to come into the starting line-up at the Hawthorns on Sunday.

Bruce pointed to the fact that his side managed to get 'some results' last season despite Jonjo Shelvey being the club's top goalscorer in the Premier League with just six goals but how Newcastle will miss Wilson, Almiron and Saint-Maximin in the coming weeks.

Emil Krafth also came off against Wolves with a shin injury but the Sweden international is set to resume training later this week.

Newcastle currently lie in 17th place in the table - just three points clear of the relegation zone.
