Newcastle linked yet again to former Liverpool defender Ozan Kabak

Newcastle United remain keen on brining Turkish centre-half Ozan Kabak to St. James' Park, according to reports.

According to Sky Italy’s Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies are still interested in the former Liverpool loanee but are yet to place a bid for the 21-year-old.

Kabak made the temporary switch to Anfield last season due to an injury crisis at the back. Jurgen Klopp's side were missing Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez through injuries, with Kabak making nine league appearances for the Reds.

He's since returned to parent club Shalke 04 and they're keen to cut their wage bill this summer.

Romano claims that Serie A side Torino have place a loan bid around the €1.5million mark to sign Kabak, but that offer has been rejected by the Bundesliga outfit – who prefer a permanent transfer.

The Magpies are trying to bring in a number of players on loan, with their budget severely depleted after the arrival of Joe Willock.

Steve Bruce admitted he would have liked to negotiate a number of outgoings but the current market has not allowed for that.

Sean Longstaff could still join Everton before the transfer window slams shut, which would in theory raise funds for a potential Kabak move.

However, set a €25million asking price prior to the January transfer window. It's unlikely Newcastle would be able to afford such a deal unless Shalke budge on their asking price.

Leicester City have also been linked with the defender this summer, with the Sun claiming the Foxes were closing in on an £18million move for the defender.
