Newcastle star Callum Wilson slams 'embarrassing' decision against Liverpool

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has slammed the “embarrassing” VAR call against Liverpool.

The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw with Magpies in the Premier League on Saturday, with Jurgen Klopp’s men conceding yet another late equaliser.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring at Anfield in the opening minutes of the contest, before the home side conceded a late equaliser from Arsenal loanee Joe Willock.

Newcastle had the ball in the net moments before when Wilson’s effort trickled over the line, before VAR intervened.

Despite the goal being given on the field, the video assistant ruled the goal out for a handball.

The ball seemed to ricocheted off Wilson’s arm before going over the line, and VAR disallowed the goal.

Wilson posted on Instagram a message praising the team for securing a draw against Liverpool, but did not hide his frustration with the decision to disallow his goal.

The Newcastle striker wrote: "Hard fought point today!!

"Some of these new rules though. Embarrassing and killing the game."
