Newcastle sign Jay Turner-Cooke from rivals Sunderland

Newcastle United have signed teenager Jay Turner-Cooke from Sunderland.

The 17-year-old has signed a three-year contract after leaving the Wearsiders recently.

A short Toon statement read: "The 17-year-old joins the club’s Academy from Sunderland, where he previously featured for the Black Cats’ Under-18 and Under-23 sides.

"Turner-Cooke has signed a deal at Little Benton until summer 2023."

Turner-Cooke posted on his Twitter account today: "Proud moment signing a professional contract for Newcastle United.

"Hard work Continues. Thank you to the players and staff at Sunderland for the last seven years, good luck for the future."

The midfielder is the son of former Sunderland kit man John Cooke who served 26 years on the back-room team on Wearside and played for the club for six years as a player.

Turner-Cooke has played 11 times for Sunderland Under-18s and once for the Under-23s in Premier League 2.

The youngster will now work with Chris Hogg, Neil Winskill and Peter Ramage at the Academy.
