Newcastle set to give youngster chance to shine in EFL Trophy clash

Newcastle United youngster Elliot Anderson is set for his chance to shine in the EFL Trophy tonight.

The Scotland youth international signed his first professional deal for the Magpies last weekend and will take on Port Vale in the group stages of the competition.

Anderson, who turned 17 last week, is ready to grasp his opportunity.

Ahead of tonight’s 7.45pm kick off at Vale Park, Anderson, speaking to the club website, he said: “Playing for the under-23s is much harder compared to the under-18s.

“The intensity is much higher and the physical side of the game is tougher.

“I'm working hard in the gym to give me the best chance possible against the older players.

"I've learnt you have to move the ball very quickly and know what to do before you get it as well as not giving it away as it's harder to get the ball back."

Both Joe White and Oisin McEntee will miss the clash at Port Vale due to international commitments with England and Eire respectively.
